We did get the upstairs attic room painted finally; it just needs some sheet rock repair on the ceiling and two light fixtures to be mounted (remember this? I'm also going to have this in the same room. Funky!). Then it's ready to be furnished. Here's what I'm thinking:
The weird blue triangle indicates the accent wall between the severely slanted ceiling walls . The green pillow probably looks sort of random, but it's meant to stand in for the vintage wood chair I have, which has cushions upholstered in a very similar fabric. Not postive the chair is going in that room yet, though. I have to see how much space I have. I'm also not 100% sure about the rug. I love graphic stripes, but this might be too bold and weigh down the room. It needs to be really light and airy since it's so small. I do like the pop of red on the edges to tie in the other red pieces. I want to eventually paint the floor white, but I don't know that we'll get to that this go-round.
What does any of this have to do with the nursery? Not much, really. The point of getting this room done is so it will be ready for when my sister and her family come out to DC for Thanksgiving. She and Michael will be in the guest room, and the kiddos will be in this attic space. The West Elm daybed is only a twin, but I figure Audrey can take the bed (since she's in SEVENTH GRADE now -- WHAT??) and Nic can sleep on an air bed on the floor.
The next thing on the list is to convert the sunroom downstairs into the new office. That has to get done so we can empty out the current office and let the nesting REALLY begin in earnest. I took the brown velvet curtains to a local tailor to have them shortened (a Pottery Barn steal on ebay, but they were too long) and the room is all taped up for Jeff to finally (FINALLY) paint the trim bright white. The wall color is the same as the living room, your standard neutral beige/off-white. We'll move the white desk from upstairs (either the current one in the office or switch it with the Parson's desk I'm using as a vanity), plop down the iMac, put the cable modem and router in the media cabinet in the living room, and maybe add a white filing cabinet. There are two funky cabinets in there so I may not need any additional storage, but I kinda love this wire tower and wall shelf unit from CB2.
The final thing is seating, and ideally we'd have two comfy chairs and a small table in there opposite the desk, but probably we'll just relocate the small sofa from upstairs and put it back in there. We sometimes watch movies or stream video on the iMac, so the sofa will get some use there even though it's not my first choice. The sofa in the picture is a little rounder than ours, but the tweed fabric is close. I wonder if maybe some new pillows (like the ones I photoshopped onto that sofa) would spruce it up?
I was all geared up to post my mood board and plans for the nursery, including the ones I had to sadly abandon, but alas, I've run out of steam. Though there is one teeny tiny baby item above. Did you see it? I will be doing some work during my maternity leave (so I think), and will need a place to set down the babe. Oh and I received very good news about my leave this week! More to come.
